The Story:
Popular TV anchorwoman & late night radio host Sun-Young (Su-Ae) prepares to work her final radio program. After this program she will prepare to take her ill daughter to America the following morning. During the radio show Ko Sun-Young receives a startling text message.

At Ko Sun-Young’s apartment, her ill daughter is being watched by Sun-Young’s sister Ah-Young (Shin Da-Eun). Then, a man named Dong-Su (Yu Ji-Tae) breaks into the apartment with a large wrench. He knocks Ah-Young unconscious, but is unable to locate Sun-Young’s daughter – who is hiding in a closet. Dong-Su then sends the text message to Sun-Young instructing her to follow his directions and not to tell anyone. Besides the most expected Korean drama ‘Athena’, Korean actress Soo Ae has been cast for the upcoming thriller Korean movie ‘Midnight F.M’ in which both projects will show us a tough side of her. The movie also stars Yoo Ji Tae, Choi Song Hyun, Shin Da Eun, and Jung Man Sik.

The movie plots a popular anchorwoman and midnight radio talk show host named Ko Sun Young (played by Soo Ae) who finds out that her family has been abducted by unidentified man. During a live radio for two hours, she confronts the kidnapper and attempts to save her family’s lives.

Soo Ae is currently busy on the production of ‘Athena’ in Italy which the “character cut” photos have been unveiled. The drama production will escort her to six overseas countries and make her to do a lot of action scenes since she plays as a spy agent.

‘Midnight F.M’ started the shoots in early year and wrapped up in April. The movie is scheduled to premiere in second half of this year.

Midnight F.M. South Korea Movie Reviews:
Filming is expected to start late January/early February 2010 & finish April, 2010. Press screening that was originally set for October 4th was cancelled due to “Midnight FM” receiving the teenager restricted “over 18+” (18세 관람가) rating. The film was re-submitted to the Korea Media Rating Board and still received the “over 18+” (18세 관람가) rating. The “over 18+” rating is one level lower than the “restricted rating” (제한상영가) which Kim Ji-Woon’s “I Saw the Devil” first received during the summer of 2010.Here are additional posters and stills for thriller-action film Midnight FM, as well as a longer trailer than the one that was previously released.

The movie stars Su Ae as a late-night radio DJ, while Yoo Ji-tae, who has so often played gentle, quiet characters, transforms into a nutjob stalker. He kidnaps her family members and turns Su Ae’s last broadcast into a nightmarish cat-and-mouse game. Yoo explained that his goal was to appear like a real psycho, rather than looking like he was acting as one, and dove into the character.

While the plot sounds pretty familiar, I’ll admit that the one thing that captures my interest is the fact that it’s a real-time thriller. I’m a sucker for real-time movies, which turn the very act of sitting in a movie theater for two hours into a framing device, by restricting its story to passing the time at the same rate as the viewer. In Midnight FM, those two hours come in the midst of Su Ae’s character’s live radio broadcast. (Also: Both actors have fabulous voices. Love how they sound in the preview.)

The movie opens next week, on October 14.
(If you watched the first preview, you may recognize much of the video below, but this version packs on an extra 30 seconds.)The trailer is out for thriller movie Midnight FM (which I’d previously mentioned as Late Night FM), which pits Su Ae (Athena) against Yoo Ji-tae (A Star’s Lover) in a battle of wills.

In the movie, Su Ae is the DJ of a late-night radio show who gets a call while she’s on the air, from a mysterious man (Yoo Ji-tae) who turns out to be a psycho killer. Su Ae must keep her cool as he directs her in an impossible mission in order to save the lives of her kidnapped family.

Personally, I’m not too interested in the plot, but this might be a film that’s more interesting for the acting. (Or not, if they fall short. But I like Su Ae and Yoo Ji-tae, and think it’s quite possible they’ll be better than the plot.) On the upside, the movie looks great on a visual level.
